The first post: another Texas chearleading scandal

Ladies and Gentlemen it is hard to believe we have reached 2007. In the spirit of kicking the new year off to a great start, I’ve decided to jump into the blogosphere. The blog’s title, “Bado Blade,” is actually a working title. Any suggestions would be most appreciated but it works for now.

What’s Bado Blade all about? The blog will primarily encompass politics and entertainment. I work in political consulting so it would be fitting for me to write about politics, and well, I am an entertainment junky so gossip will surely enter into the foray but it won’t be extensive. We have enough Perez Hilton’s to help us out with the celebrity news.

For my first post I want to highlight a cheerleading scandal straight from my hometown of McKinney, Texas, a “bedroom” community 30 miles north of Dallas. The story actually broke on my mom’s website, McKinneyNews.net, a couple of months ago but has now earned national attention from the likes of Good Morning America, The Today Show and Newsweek.

Aparently some snobby Cheerleaders, yeah you know the kind from high school, took inappropriate pictures at a condom/sex store in their cheer uniforms and then proceeded to post the pics on MySpace.

But the story doesn’t stop there. One of the “Fab 5″ as they are now infamously known, is the daughter of McKinney North High School’s principal Linda Theret. There seems to be some conficting stories here but what I know is that the girls received a 30 day suspension but after the other chearleading parents called to complain, the punishment was dropped down to 15 days. Whether this decision was made by Theret or the school’s Superintendent is unclear, but as a result, the Chearleading coach resigned in October and went to the media blasting the girls’ series of alleged misbehavior (aside from the condom incident), Theret and other MNHS administrators for undermining her authority.

What irks me is the McKinney School District spent $40,000 to investigate the situation and the guy concluded that the adults involved are all to blame. Obviously! There seemed to be a lot of shading dealings going on at McKinney Superintendent’s office and I point the finger at them. They should have been the leaders and really shouldn’t have been involved in the first place. Why were they involved? Nobody is asking that question? And MISD certainly isn’t telling us. They sure are trying to shove the “scandal” under the rug. You can always tell when something fishy is going on when someone says, “We are just trying to put this behind us.”

The bottom line is that nobody is benefiting – not the high school, not the principal, not the district and certainly not the girls, for whom I hope they learned their lesson. Girls, girls, girls, one day you will learn.

UP NEXT…Well, I’ve got some interesting posts coming up through the pipeline…The Ghostbar and all its pretentiousness, the undeniable difference between the war in Iraq and Vietnam and a cold remedy that is the best on the market.

Have a great weekend all and Happy New Year!
